Zyrtec 10mg 30 Tabs, Cetirizina
VISERTRAL * antihistamine indicated for the treatment of symptoms of chronic urticaria, acute urticaria, contact dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, allergic skin manifestations, perennial rhinitis, seasonal rhinitis, allergic rhinoconjunctivitis and other pathologies that course with cutaneous pruritus.
Peak blood levels of the order of 0.3 mcg / ml is reached between 30 and 60 minutes after administration of a dose of 10 mg of cetirizine. Cetirizine is strongly bound to plasma proteins. Its half-life is approximately 10 hours in adults, 6 hours in children aged 6 to 12 years and 5 hours in children 2 to 6 years. These data are consistent with the urinary excretion half-life of the drug.
The cumulative excretion represents about two-thirds of the administered dose in both adults and children. It has been observed that the absorption of the drug differs from one individual to another. Plasma levels are linearly related to the dose administered. Cetirizine is a potent antihistamine with low potential for drowsiness at pharmacologically active doses and additional antiallergic properties.
Is a selective antagonist of the H-1 receptor with minimal effects on other receptors and therefore, is essentially free of anticholinergic effects as antiserotoninergic.
Cetirizine inhibits the phase "immediate" allergic reaction, mediated by histamine, reduces the migration of inflammatory cells and release of mediators associated with allergic response "late". Cetirizine reduces bronchial hyperresponsiveness of asthmatic patients to histamine. Cetirizine inhibits specifically induced migration of eosinophils in atopic subjects.
These effects are obtained without showing any central effect or through psychometric testing or quantified by EEG.
VISERTRAL * is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to any component, patients with renal insufficiency, pregnancy, lactation or in children under 6 years.
Avoid alcohol while being administered VISERTRAL * and in patients with renal insufficiency is recommended to reduce the dosage in half.
Patients should not exceed the recommended dose or drive motor vehicle or operating machinery. Although studies in healthy volunteers treated with doses of 20 and 25 mg / day showed no effects on attention or reaction time.
Use in Pregnancy and Lactation
In animal studies so far revealed no teratogenic effects, however, and like any drug, restrict its use during pregnancy and lactation because cetirizine passes into breast milk.
Adverse Drug Reactions
Reported side effects include agitation, dry mouth, sedation, headache, dizziness and gastrointestinal upset. All mild and transient.
DRUG INTERACTIONS AND OTHER GENDER
VISERTRAL * has a low level of metabolism. So far there have been no interactions with any other drug.
At therapeutic levels, VISERTRAL * did not potentiate the effects of alcohol.
As with other antihistamines it is advisable to avoid drinking and use of tranquilizers during the treatment. Studies with diazepam and cimetidine have shown that cetirizine has no interaction with them.
CHANGES IN RESULTS OF LABORATORY TESTS
A recommended therapeutic dosages, cetirizine did not produce any change in normal blood, in the records of electrocardiograms and electroencephalograms.
PRECAUTIONS IN RELATION TO EFFECTS OF CARCINOGENESIS, MUTAGENESIS, Impairment of Fertility
Teratology studies conducted in experimental animals have shown no special malformation.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Adults and children over 12 years: 10 ml every 24 hours. In children may be given in two doses of 5 ml or 24 drops every 24 hours in one or two takes.
Children 6 to 12 years: 10 ml or 24 drops every 24 hours, administered once or twice.
Children 2 to 6 years: 5 ml or 12 drops every 24 hours, administered once or twice.
In adults can be given one tablet a day.
For now, no data to suggest that the dose should be reduced in the elderly, provided renal function is normal.
In patients with mild or moderate, the dose should be reduced to half a tablet daily.
REPRESENTATIONS AND MANAGEMENT Overdosage
A symptom of overdosage may be fatigue, which occurs with administration of 50 mg of VISERTRAL * in a single dose. In case of massive overdosage, gastric lavage should be performed along with the usual supportive measures. To date there is no specific antidote.
